Dance at St.Paul's School

Last month I had the amazing opportunity to visit St. Pauls's School in New Hampshire, USA. Here is a rendering I did of Jennifer Howard's Advanced Dance Class. These girls were so wonderful and welcoming. They are very graceful and talented dancers and seeing them dance by the bar as well as in the centre of the room was very inspiring.

The Periodic Table of Elements

I spent a lot of time during all of my teenage years with this table. I found several slightly different versions of the table, but went with one and made it my own. Some elements may be different here compared to a copy that you may have, but remember that this is just an artistic interpretation. Each of the different colour combos are to categorize the elements by their type (ex. transition metal, noble gas etc).

29.9.12

Cruella De Vil

Dodie Smith's book, 'The 101 Dalmatians,' was one of my favourite books so read in school when I was younger. Even now it is still one of my favourite books to read. Though I like the visuals of Cruella popularized by Walt Disney, I wanted to do a different take on her and just keep that villainous attitude.

18.9.12

The Duchess

Part 4 of 'The Alice Series' is The Duchess. This is from Chapter 6, 'Pig and Pepper,' where Alice finds the Duchess, the cheshire cat, the cook and a baby who turns into a pig. The cook throws dishes around the room and is cooking with so much pepper that everyone is frequently sneezing. I love how calm the characters are described in this scene/situation in the book and I wanted to play around with the idea of having this family-style portrait in the midst of all this craziness.

27.8.12

The Fashion Citizen

Stephanie and Melissa of The Fashion Citizen are some of my favourite people to watch on YouTube! They are so creative, smart and talented - a real pleasure to watch and learn from. They focus on thrifting and styling the items that they find, and as a thrift fan myself, it's great to see other girls having fun with preloved clothes - and fashion in general! Their tips and DIY videos are very inspiring, too!

13.8.12

Lita

This was made in 2010, but it's one of my favourite pieces!
I've been working on my website a lot lately and it's almost complete, I wanted to have this work on it, which it will be, but I thought I post it here as well now - sort of like a preview!

8.8.12

Gabby Douglas

Gymnastics is my favourite sport of the summer Olympics. I was really inspired by Gabby Douglas, representing Team USA. She is so talented, charismatic and excellent at her sport!

20.7.12

White Rabbit

When I did Alice I wanted to so a series, so here's the second piece: The White Rabbit. I picked the moment when Aline is in the space with all the doors (towards the beginning of the novel - Ch.2 specifically) and she sees the Rabbit after crying out her size frustrations.

15.7.12

Willy Wonka

Inspired by Roald Dahl's character, 'Willy Wonka' from 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.' Originally illustrated by Quentin Blake. Was as a kid, and still is now, one of my fave books!

9.7.12

Noemi

This is a fun illustration I did of a friend!

White Witch

I'm a big fan of the 'The Chronicles of Narnia' series by C.S. Lewis, so I wanted to try my hand at the White Witch. The novel points out that it's winter and that things are white, so I stayed true to that and kept the background simple. This illustration was specifically inspired from when the white Witch offers Edmond the Turkish Delight in book two: 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.'

26.6.12

Electra Heart

Portrait piece of Electra Heart portrayed by one of my favourite artists, Marina and the Diamonds. Been a fan for a few years now and I really like the concepts she brings into her work. Miss Heart turned out a tad sadder in this than I wanted, but it still works.

21.6.12

Facebook Banner

I've updated the banner on the Facebook page to my own twist of a dragon creature.

12.6.12

Alice

I'm in a British Children's Literature summer class right now and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is on of the books we are studying. I've read this book several times and it's one of my favourites! I wrote my term paper on Alice and being so close to the story everyday for a full week really got me to thinking of how neat it would be to draw an illustration inspired by the novel. The 'original' Alice, Alice Lidell, had brown hair and I think that's pretty cool so I kept that!

19.5.12

Pandas!

Pandas were requested on Twitter, so I drew this up.

Ivy

I wanted to do an illustration of my good friend and blogger, Ivy Xu. She's such a kind, friendly, talented and smart girl. Her styling accomplishments can be found at: http://ivy-pinkspider.blogspot.ca/

10.5.12

Jenn

I've been a fan of Clothes Encounters since I started watching Jenn (and Sarah's) YouTube channel in late 2010. Jenn runs the channel now and she is such an inspiring and charismatic person. Her videos always have great style, relaxed vibes, and fresh points-of-view. I wanted to do a portrait piece of her to show my appreciation and to give back some love and creativity : )

5.5.12

Pala Parrot

Here's my cover of the cover art from Friendly Fires' second album, 'Pala.' Love the album, and the cover design is so on-point. I thought the parrot would make for an interesting illustration and I'm happy with how it turned out!

Here are some behind the scenes pictures:

30.4.12

Saoirse

Saw a couple girls at random while walking around town. Their beauty and style inspired me to create this character.

26.4.12

Fantastic Mr.Fox

Keeping in my vein of portrait pieces, I've done one of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr.Fox. Enjoy!

19.4.12

Mika

I wanted to draw some more portraits, and thought I would start off with Mika! He is so talented and inspiring. I love his music and I'm also a fan of the cover art. The 'mosaic' bkgroud in this one is inspired by the titles to his songs.

Here are some behind the scenes pictures...

12.4.12

Tumblr

I've now started a Tumblr page! It's my designated 'inspiration-image' page, so you can check that out to see the kind of things that I'm into at future moments. This blog will just be for SP works and more closely related things - no more mixing of SP images with other things I'm into. Organization ^ _ ^

9.4.12

Pala

Here are some images I drew and digitally edited/stylized for my FB profile. I named the girl Pala after the amazing Friendly Fires album that I've been listening to everyday lately! These are the first pieces I've done that have this saturated and pop-y digital superimposition.

26.3.12

Tea for Two

Gave this one a hint of a 60s feel. I'd like to create more images with 60s-inspired girls, so stay tuned...

3.3.12

Freak Show

I did this for the Facebook page. It's going to be the first cover photo.

Here are some behind the scenes pics:

2.3.12

Whip it, baby!

I wanted to try out some simple pieces - and do a series - so, being a fan of illustrating long wavy hair, I thought drawing the action of whipping hair about would be neat. I was also listening to rather freeing and refreshing music while drawing these.

23.2.12

Cover Shot

Beautiful. I remember when 'Video Games' had 100 000 views. It's great that her style of music is being embraced by so many, lead the way Lizzie!

Patricia

I saw these square shaped earrings while out-and-about a few days ago, thought they'd look good on someone with long hair so I drew this up.

I kept it in pencil to try something different and shake my usual portrait drawings up a little. As usual, the person is of no one in particular, I just put some facial features together.
